About Gremi Archangels Complex
Gremi was the royal and commercial centre of Kakheti during the 16th and early 17th centuries. The surviving complex was constructed under King Levan of Kakheti and includes the Church of the Archangels, a bell tower and remains of the royal palace.
The church contains historic frescoes, while the architecture reflects both Georgian and Persian influences. Visitors can climb the fortified tower and enjoy panoramic views across the surrounding villages and the Alazani Valley.
Gremi is located roughly twenty kilometres from Telavi and can easily be combined with Alaverdi or a wine-tasting programme.
