About King Erekle II Palace
King Erekle II’s Palace stands inside Batonis Tsikhe and forms the central part of the Telavi Museum of History and Ethnography. The relatively modest scale of the residence reflects the practical character of the Kakhetian royal court.
The museum displays objects connected with the royal family, including weapons, clothing, carpets, books and King Erekle’s silver dagger. Visitors can also learn about the political challenges faced by the kingdom during the 18th century and the role Telavi played as a royal capital.
The palace is especially important because it is the only substantially preserved royal residence of its kind in Georgia.
