About the destination
Gori is one of the main cities of Georgia’s Shida Kartli region, where medieval, Soviet and ancient history meet. The city is best known as the birthplace of Joseph Stalin, whose museum complex includes exhibitions, his preserved childhood house and a personal railway carriage. Other important landmarks include Gori Fortress, the central streets and the Memorial of Georgian Warrior Heroes.
A short drive from the city leads to Uplistsikhe, an ancient settlement carved into a rocky hillside above the Mtkvari River. One full day is recommended for exploring Gori and Uplistsikhe comfortably.
