About Gori Fortress
Gori Fortress dominates the city from a rocky hill above its central district. Archaeological evidence indicates that the hill was inhabited from ancient times, while the surviving fortress is closely associated with Georgia’s medieval history. Its strategic position allowed control over important roads crossing the region. Visitors can walk around the defensive walls and enjoy panoramic views of Gori, the surrounding plains and distant mountains. Some sections of the ascent are uneven, so comfortable footwear is recommended.
