About Mother of Georgia

The Mother of Georgia, known in Georgian as Kartlis Deda, stands high above Tbilisi on the Sololaki Ridge. The statue holds a bowl of wine in one hand to welcome friends and a sword in the other to meet enemies, representing two important sides of the Georgian national character: hospitality and courage. The monument is located close to Narikala Fortress and offers panoramic views over the Old Town, the Mtkvari River and central Tbilisi. It can be reached on foot or by cable car from Rike Park.
