About Old Tbilisi
Narikala Fortress stands on a hill above Old Tbilisi and is one of the city’s most recognisable landmarks. The fortress has protected Tbilisi for centuries and its surviving walls reflect the city’s long and eventful history. Visitors can reach Narikala by cable car from Rike Park or walk uphill through the Old Town. From the fortress area, there are impressive views of the Mtkvari River, Abanotubani, Metekhi Church and the modern parts of Tbilisi. It is particularly attractive in the late afternoon and around sunset.
