About this place
Khertvisi Fortress stands on a high rocky cape near the confluence of the Mtkvari and Paravani rivers. The surviving complex includes a citadel, defensive walls, a small church and remains of residential and auxiliary buildings.
The fortress occupied an important strategic location and was controlled by Georgian nobles and foreign powers at different times. It was repeatedly altered and rebuilt by its successive owners. A visitor path leads from the village toward the fortress, although the terrain may be uneven
