About the destination
Mtskheta is one of Georgia’s oldest cities and served as the country’s ancient capital. Located near the confluence of the Aragvi and Mtkvari rivers, it remains one of Georgia’s most important religious and cultural centres.
The city’s main monuments—Jvari Monastery, Svetitskhoveli Cathedral and Samtavro Monastery—form part of the UNESCO World Heritage property known as the Historical Monuments of Mtskheta. Its compact historic centre, traditional restaurants, craft shops and nearby monasteries make Mtskheta an ideal day trip from Tbilisi.
