About Samtavro Monastery

Samtavro Monastery is located close to Mtskheta’s historic centre and forms part of the UNESCO World Heritage property. The complex includes the main church, a smaller ancient church traditionally associated with Saint Nino, a bell tower and monastery buildings. Georgian tradition connects the site with King Mirian III and Queen Nana, who played a central role in the adoption of Christianity in Georgia. Samtavro remains an active religious complex, so visitors should dress respectfully and avoid disturbing worshippers.
