Ushguli/Place
Panoramic viewpoints across Ushguli toward Georgia’s highest mountain and the snow-covered peaks of the Greater Caucasus.
About this place
Mount Shkhara rises directly behind Ushguli and forms the dramatic backdrop to the community’s villages and towers. At approximately 5,203 metres, it is the highest mountain in Georgia and one of the highest peaks of the Greater Caucasus.
Views are available from many parts of Ushguli, although visibility depends heavily on clouds and changing mountain weather. Early morning often provides the clearest conditions. The open areas around Zhibiani, Lamaria Church and the beginning of the glacier route are particularly suitable for photography.
