Grand Caucasus Journey — route map preview

This journey brings together Georgia’s most important cultural landmarks, ancient religious sites and dramatic mountain landscapes. The experience begins in Tbilisi with a visit to the monumental Holy Trinity Cathedral, commonly known as Sameba, followed by Narikala Fortress, where panoramic views open over the Old Town and the Mtkvari River. The route continues to Mtskheta, Georgia’s ancient capital, to explore Svetitskhoveli Cathedral, one of the country’s most significant spiritual and architectural monuments.

In western Georgia, guests visit Gelati Monastery near Kutaisi, renowned for its medieval religious and educational heritage, before entering the extraordinary underground world of Prometheus Cave, filled with naturally formed chambers, stalactites and stalagmites.

The mountain section continues in Upper Svaneti. From Mestia, travellers discover the alpine scenery of Koruldi Lakes and the peaceful landscapes of Mazeri Village and Ushba Valley. In Ushguli, the programme includes panoramic viewpoints toward Mount Shkhara, the historic Lamaria Church and the towers and castle remains traditionally associated with Queen Tamar. These remote villages, medieval stone towers and high Caucasus peaks create one of the most distinctive landscapes in Georgia.

The final part of the journey explores the Kazbegi region. Guests visit the iconic Gergeti Trinity Church beneath Mount Kazbegi, discover Sno Village and its monumental stone portraits, and continue to Juta Village for views of the dramatic Chaukhi Mountains. Combining historic cities, UNESCO-associated heritage, ancient monasteries, caves, alpine lakes and remote mountain communities, this tour offers a complete introduction to Georgia’s cultural richness and natural beauty.
