About this route
This eight-day private tour combines Georgia’s historic cities, medieval monasteries, remote Caucasus villages and Black Sea coastline.
The journey begins in Tbilisi with a guided city walk through the historic centre and a visit to the Rezo Gabriadze Marionette Theatre area. Afterwards, guests travel west toward Tskaltubo, where they explore atmospheric Soviet-era architecture, including a historic sanatorium and Bathhouse No. 8, before spending the night in Kutaisi.
The next day includes Gelati Monastery, known for its medieval heritage, frescoes and cultural importance, followed by Motsameta Monastery, dramatically positioned above a forested gorge. After free time in Kutaisi, the route continues through Zugdidi toward Mestia, the cultural centre of Upper Svaneti.
In Ushguli, guests travel by suitable mountain vehicle and walk toward Queen Tamar’s Tower. The programme then continues to the starting point of the Shkhara Glacier route for a guided mountain hike with a certified local trekking guide. After lunch, visitors explore Lamaria Church, one of Upper Svaneti’s most important religious landmarks.
The Svaneti experience also includes a scenic mountain picnic and panoramic viewpoints. The journey then continues from Mestia toward Batumi on the Black Sea coast.
In Batumi, guests enjoy a city walk and free time before visiting the Botanical Garden, including the bamboo grove and Black Sea viewpoints. The programme also features the Argo Cable Car, panoramic city views, an evening walk along the seaside, the Ali and Nino sculpture and a Ferris wheel ride. On the return journey to Tbilisi, guests stop at a winery for a Georgian wine tasting before completing the tour in the capital.
