About this place
Motsameta Monastery is situated on a rocky promontory above the Tskaltsitela River. Its scenic setting, red-roofed buildings and forested surroundings make it one of the most photogenic religious sites near Kutaisi.
The monastery is associated with the noble brothers David and Constantine, who are honoured as Christian martyrs. A local tradition holds that visitors who pass beneath their reliquary while making a sincere wish may receive a blessing. The monastery can easily be combined with Gelati during a half-day excursion.
