About Margiani House Museum

The Margiani House Museum is one of the best places in Mestia to experience traditional Svan domestic architecture. The Margiani family originally owned eight towers, four of which survive today.

Inside the complex, visitors can see living areas, a cellar, food-storage spaces, agricultural objects and the special carved chair reserved for the family elder, known as the Makhvshi. The museum demonstrates how Svan families organised daily life and survived long winters in the mountains.
